Energy balance from Noumea to Kupang
Our vessel left Noumea on November 13, heading for Kupang, Indonesia. A tough navigation told by our captain Jean-Baptiste Sanchez, who led our crew off the Great Barrier Reef.
6 crew members were on board our ship when we left New Caledonia, with our hydrogen tanks 100% full.
From Noumea to the Great Barrier Reef, the weather was sunny for 7 days, followed by 3 days of cloudy weather with winds up to 30 knots, pushing our vessel to speeds between 9 and 11 knots.
Sailing off the Great Barrier Reef is not easy, and many ships left their hulls on the many shallows close to the coast, which our crew could see.
Riders on the storm
Then the passage through the Torres Strait where two oceans meet, and the Arafura Sea where the thermostat rose to 45°C, one of the hottest temperatures experienced on board.
These strong heats generated many storms of an impressive violence, with the spectacle of lightnings which touched the sea several times around the boat
Our captain navigated between the storms, even turning around to escape one of them! The rest of the journey went smoothly until Kupang, where our crew had to stay on board for 10 days before being able to land.
